Empowering Carolina Fall 2019: A Mental Health-Friendly Campus

October 30, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 2:00 pm

Empowering Carolina

The culture surrounding mental health continues to evolve nationally, as it does here at Carolina. At our spring Empowering Carolina event, we discussed ways UNC-CH is working to understand more about the needs of our campus community when it comes to mental health and wellness and ways our leadership, schools, departments and organizations are supporting those needs. We’re building off those efforts for the fall Empowering Carolina, which will focus on our ongoing commitment to A Mental Health-Friendly Campus. Join us on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Carolina Club, Alumni Hall as we discuss fostering a mentally healthy campus.

This year’s program includes:

  • UNC-CH’s commitment to A Mental Health-Friendly Campus presented by Interim Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz
  • Mental Health Toolkit presented by Derek Shields with the Employer Assistance and Resource Network (EARN)
  • Mental Health Programs and Resources presented by representatives from CAPS, EAP, and student and staff wellness programs
  • Announcement of the new Mental Health Workshops Program
  • Update on the Count Me In Campaign

This event is open to all UNC faculty, staff, and students. If you or anyone in your department is interested in attending this event, please RSVP. Check-in and the lunch buffet will start at 11:30 a.m. with the program starting promptly at 12:30 p.m.

The event is also open to the public, and we ask those planning to attend to RSVP as well. The deadline for registering for this event is October 10, 2019.

If you need accommodations for the event (e.g., sign language interpreters), please be sure to indicate that within your online registration. For questions regarding accommodations, contact Rudy Jones at rudy_jones@unc.edu, (919) 962-9980, or (T) 711 NC RELAY as soon as possible.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at this year’s event.

Empowering Carolina launched in 2016 as a series of campus programs held throughout the year to raise awareness of resources for individuals with disabilities and to celebrate disabilities as part of diversity. The series is sponsored by Accessibility Resources & Service in Student Affairs and the Division of Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement.
