Please join us for an exciting Empowering Carolina event with Paralympic athlete John Register on Friday, November 18, 2016, from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Great Hall of the Frank Porter Graham Student Union. Empowering Carolina, which launched last spring, is a series of programs held on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill throughout the year to raise awareness of resources for individuals with disabilities and to celebrate disabilities as part of diversity.

The event will feature a keynote speech from Register, a U.S. Army veteran and Paralympic Silver medalist who has competed as a swimmer and track and field athlete in the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta and 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney. In 2007, he was appointed by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to serve as one of eight members to advise the Secretary of Foreign Policy Issues regarding disability and he continued to serve in this capacity under Secretary Hillary Clinton. Register will share motivational stories about life’s challenges and triumphs, and take questions from the audience. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about resources available for students and employees with disabilities at UNC-Chapel Hill.
